Garmin CIRQA Smart Band Arrives in the UK With No Subscription Fee

Garmin's first screen-free fitness band launched globally on 24 July 2026 at £179.99 — and it doesn't cost a penny more to use the core features.

Garmin's first screen-free smart band is now available to buy in the UK — and the headline feature isn't a sensor or a metric, it's a price tag that doesn't keep growing. The CIRQA Smart Band launched globally on 24 July 2026 at £179.99, with no recurring subscription required to access its core health and fitness tracking.

The CIRQA launched globally on 24 July 2026 — but UK buyers currently face three-to-five-week delivery waits due to demand outstripping supply.

What the CIRQA actually is

Announced on 21 July 2026, the CIRQA is Garmin's direct answer to the Whoop Strap — the screenless fitness tracker that has dominated this corner of the wearables market, largely without serious competition, for the better part of a decade. Where Whoop bundles hardware costs into an annual membership fee of between $199 and $359, Garmin is asking for a single upfront payment and leaving the choice of extras to the buyer.

The band itself forgoes a display entirely. There are no notifications, no glanceable stats, and no tap-to-check step counts. Instead, a single side button lets users log from a library of more than 80 manual activity types — running, walking, yoga, and beyond — while the optical sensor works continuously in the background. Garmin describes the sensor as a new Gen 4 optical module with skin temperature capability. Reviewers have noted it sits one generation behind the Elevate Gen 5 found in the Index Sleep Monitor, which shipped in June 2025. Garmin product manager Chrissy Wheeler has explained the decision plainly: "the reason we didn't go for the very latest one is the size of the module," which would have added thickness to the band. The sensor choice also means no ECG functionality.

The module itself measures 27 x 47 x 9mm and weighs approximately 21g. Battery life is rated at up to 10 days, and the band carries a 5 ATM water resistance rating. A fabric-loop design means it can be worn on the wrist or moved to the upper arm — a separate upper arm band is available in black, priced at $59 in the US, or as a bundle with the CIRQA pod for $209.

What it tracks — and what it doesn't

Core health metrics include wrist-based heart rate, Garmin's Body Battery energy monitoring, Pulse Ox, stress, skin temperature, and sleep tracking with stage breakdowns, a sleep score, heart rate variability, respiration rate, and nap detection. Training-focused data covers Training Readiness, HRV status, VO2 max estimate, Training Status, workout benefit, and recovery time estimates. The CIRQA can also broadcast its heart rate signal to gym equipment and platforms such as Zwift, and it supports temperature data sharing with the Natural Cycles fertility platform.

Notable omissions: there is no altimeter, so floors climbed is not recorded, and there is no multisport profile.

The subscription question

Garmin has been deliberate in its messaging here. All of the above — sleep data, training readiness, Body Battery, HRV — is free and visible inside the Garmin Connect app from day one. An optional Connect+ subscription unlocks extras including nutrition tracking, real-time workout stats, and advanced coaching and breathing exercises. In the UK, Connect+ costs £6.99 per month or £69.99 annually. That is entirely optional.

Garmin also confirmed on 23 July 2026 that a Garmin Connect Mobile update would make live heart rate visible during a workout without a subscription — a feature that had initially required Connect+.

Susan Lyman, Garmin Vice President of Consumer Sales and Marketing, framed the product's purpose at launch: "With its discreet design and trusted health and fitness tracking tools Garmin is known for, this smart band complements our lineup of popular smartwatches and wellness monitors, allowing users to transition smoothly between their Garmin devices throughout the day. Plus, with no subscription required, CIRQA Smart Band helps you stay on top of your health and fitness goals—and makes a thoughtful gift for others who want to do the same."

Colours, sizes, and where it sits in the market

The CIRQA is available in two sizes — small to medium and large to extra large — and four core colours: French Grey, Mauve, Black, and Captain Blue. Two further band colours, Citron Grey and Dark Olive, are sold separately.

At £179.99, the CIRQA sits above Google's Fitbit Air — which began shipping on 26 May 2026 at $99.99 with no mandatory subscription — but below the ongoing annual cost of a Whoop membership. Garmin has not launched a new fitness tracking band since 2022, making the CIRQA a long-awaited entry into a segment it had effectively ceded to rivals.

Supply warning: expect a wait

Demand has significantly outpaced supply. Garmin's Q2 2026 earnings, released on 29 July, confirmed the band sold out shortly after launch. CEO Cliff Pemble addressed the situation directly: "I think it is demand and supply driven, definitely ahead of anything that we had imagined… The actual result, once we announced the product, was very strong, ahead of our expectations." Garmin's Fitness segment posted a 25% revenue increase to $757 million in Q2 2026 — a new second-quarter record.

As of today, 16 August 2026, UK and European buyers are looking at three-to-five-week delivery estimates for most colours and sizes. The Mauve colourway in L/XL has been noted as an exception with better availability. UK buyers should check Garmin.com directly for current stock status before assuming immediate despatch.

Why it matters

For UK buyers who've been put off screenless trackers by Whoop's mandatory annual membership — which runs between $199 and $359 a year — the CIRQA is a meaningful shift. You pay £179.99 once, and Garmin's core sleep, recovery, and training data sits inside the free Garmin Connect app with no further obligation. It also slots neatly into an existing Garmin ecosystem, letting watch owners leave their bulkier GPS device off overnight while the band quietly handles sleep staging, HRV, and Body Battery. The catch right now is availability: demand has run well ahead of Garmin's own projections, and a wait of several weeks is the reality for most UK orders placed today.
